Sleet/rain mix 7 miles west of Perryville. Went from 36-33 degrees within that 7 miles. As for schools releasing early, I have been in education for 16 years. There are very few “correct” and easy calls when releasing kids early. Our district runs 20+ Bus routes on roads that aren’t easy to drive on a nice, sunny day. You throw into that hundreds of kids and teachers driving, and it makes for a stressful situation for our admin team to call and when. Following 2 bus accidents last year when a storm blew up early, one that could’ve been major that involved a semi that couldn’t stop, I would much rather error on the side of caution. Yep! As we were having the conversation on whether to call or not, it certainly came down to timing and when buses would be on the road if precip did start coming down and causing issues. We’d always rather err on the side of safety for students and staff! Always have to think about the High School kids who will be driving home as well as the buses. Always a tough call.

Do have a few flurries in St.peters with the cold air, bit nothing of significance.

Pretty cool look at the volcanic eruption. Compares it to some of the other notable eruptions from the past. youtu.be/TbbIVGStRbQ

I vote we turn northern MO into a giant lake. Then when this cold fronts come in and bring these winds we can possibly get cone lake effect snow 😆

A bit surprised NWS didn't hoist a WC advisory here...forecast is -10*. It's absolutely frigid out with that stiff N wind and 10* currently.

Still might be a chance of some flakes early next week between a cut off low ejecting and clipper coming down in the flow. The best chance is nothing happens around here

That system hasn't really gathered much interest for me yet. Models generally show very little phasing and mostly squash that ejecting cut off energy. Gonna need to see a lot better phasing or a lot more dominant N stream wave digging in before I get too interested. It's tough to get those Baja lows to work out for us.

NWS St.Louis Weather Radio Says 0 to 8 above for the metro tonight. Pretty remarkable with no snow cover.

0 to minus 8 would be remarkable.

Snowman just to have a 0 in the metro area with no snow, is no easy feat

Depending on cloud trends, I'd put pretty good odds on going below zero tomorrow AM IMBY...pretty ideal radiational cooling conditions under the strong ridge with a slacking wind off the snow field just to the north.
The EC brings an even colder airmass down early next week.

I'll take the cold every time over the sauna-like St. Louis summers. Last year was truly brutal in the humidity department. I can dress for this weather...I can't dress for that hot mess(legally, lol)

Whether it’s 2 or -2 it’s ridiculously cold I know I could really care less, we need it to trend colder next week, we are cold but not cold enough to really catch any clippers. Unfortunately they all track from Central to northern Illinois.

On a side note. Monday I did test positive with covid, and I am fully vaccinated and it really was nothing at all, except one wierd thing my hips hurt like crazy, and I looked up that covid can cause arthritic like pain temporarily, it woke me out of a sleep last night and comes and goes. With be being 29 and not experiencing pain in my hips like that yet it was quite eye opening for what the folks who suffer from arthritis deal with.
But that was one of the wierdest symptons.
