That was like 4 inches imby. Lets bring that 14 inch area up to the metro. I had 8" in De Soto with that storm. I hope the 12z GFS doesn't pull off a coup with this run. It seems to be just outside of my area anyway, then bombs out to our east. Then the storm on it's heels bombs up to our south and east again. I could handle 10" of snow on the ground from two back to back storms. It will be my birthday for the first one. My wishes are in.

12z euro is not biting on the early week storm. It does have the artic air nearby and a storm later next week.
I think we will cash in before Christmas.

Retreating high, those are tough in STL Ensembles have been hinting at a good setup around that time so we’ll have to see how it plays out. The amount of cold air sloshing around is a good sign

Amazingly beautiful. But I didn't see any 'hamster' flakes......they must be pretty rare.

On a much, much worse note--our oldest had to deal with the first loss of a student, and she doesn't even student-teach until next semester. She's doing field work at Scott City Elementary, where two students were killed over the weekend when the car they were in was swept away by floodwaters. Today wasn't going to be an easy day for her...or anyone at the school.

I thought there were 3 killed, but after reading the full article, i realized the third fatality was a separate incident where his truck was found upside down in the water.

Things actually look loaded heading into next week. I didn’t think we would be saying that until the end of the month at the earliest. That’s big league cold air in Canada and it looks like it wants to play ball.

Agreed. Next week and the following week both look fun!! It’s early but things are looking good for a late fall winter storm in my opinion. Not too often you have that much cold air diving down in December with what looks to be an active jet stream with maybe even a southern storm in play.

Patience will be rewarded Patience is rewarded with long stretches of cold dry weather around here...that usually end with heavy rain and mud lol. All kidding aside, the pattern seems to be trending toward favorable.

I'm surprised the models are painting the cold and potential winter weather in the mid and long range...the teleconnections don't look great. The effects of the strongly positive NAO are pretty apparent in the orientation and movement of the arctic airmass.

I'm surprised the models are painting the cold and potential winter weather in the mid and long range...the teleconnections don't look great. They do look better as we head into mid month. The AO and NAO will start to trend negative which is good. ECMWF has them hovering around neutral after that so the cold shots may be quick in and quick out rather than persistent

Those hills in southeast Missouri are just terrible in heavy rain with the danger posed by low water crossings. If the NWS issued warnings every time one of those flooded they would be under warnings 2/3rds of the year.

Also worth noting the SSW event is on the weaker side, so it is likely influencing some of the trends the next 2 weeks, but it may fail to drive substantial winter weather in January

The effects of the strongly positive NAO are pretty apparent in the orientation and movement of the arctic airmass. I expect quick hitting shots of cold air. The key will be getting the timing/phasing to workout. We may end up with a situation that is more "return flow" based on the tail end of the arctic air... bitter cold...snow...then ice..then rain and mud. Time will tell.
