As for this storm... a weird one. It is not often we get what is essentially a 100% cold frontal, frontogenesis driven snow...especially one that sticks so quickly after being in the 60s two days in a row! The mesoscale models did a nice job catching on to the banding...but as expected they did a poor job of placing leaving me with little confidence on where to emphasize a higher threat of enhanced snow. I opted for "Dusting to 2 inches" ...to get in the neighborhood...but that will be a little skimpy for folks up north and eadt. but I did mention icy/slushy roads for this afternoon and evening...and a rough PM drive... so I get partial credit there. FYI... Lambert is at 1.3 inches... breaking the record of 1911! Sorry Chris- There is a big difference between slushy and ice sheet covered...Very dangerous Up until about 4pm, all was just wet on main roads. I cannot help it if Modot cant figure out how to habdle 1 to 2 inches of snow that fell over 6 hours on roads that were well above freezing. Thats on them... not the forecasters. There were no suprises with temps, winds and really not much with the snow amounts. I can only forecast the weather. Modot has to act on those forecasts...and it seems they regularly have trouble doing so.

Today's record snow breaks a record set during one of the most historic weather events in St. Louis history! The single greatest temperature drop EVER in a single day... 60 degrees. A day that produced (at the time) both a record high and low temperature. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Just measured 1.1inches..... also Chris your forecast was about as perfect as it could get.... only thing that happened was the sleet cooled the roads a little faster .... which was mentioned that this would be a game changer.... great job Chris and the NWS on this one!!

Absolutely... and that gets worse when there is wind. Now, to be fair... MoDot may not have jurisdiction over the road in question...or the outer roads. so I need to pedal my last post back...as it may not have been theirs to treat.

There's a story on how both STL County and MODOT were preparing on another channel's website. They were going to pretreat in the morning, then monitor the situation and be ready to act, to summarize. Uhhh.....

Just drove from chesterfield to affton. 40 was awful. Snowpacked and icy. Traffic was moving at around 5-30mph. Tons of accidents.

1.4 inches here just outside of St Clair. Very pretty. Of course I was off today so I got to stay home. Heard a lot of bad things about the highways in Jeffco. Snow has stopped and the colds blowing in. The drive to work at 6am is gonna be chilly.

Major case of the “tight cheeks” on the way home from work this afternoon. Back to a sleet/snow mix in Perryville now. Should end up with about an inch of stuff. Very impressive for this time of year. Hopefully a sign of things to come!

Have to check the school snow pool tomorrow and see if I had a winner! Two categories were date of first snow and amount. I'm going with pbc's measurement since school is in Ballwin. Thanks pbc for the measurement.

And tip of the cap to the NWS... the advisory and their wording about roads and falling temps was excellent... both last night and today. They hit a home run with their messaging.

The wind made it tough to get a good measurement, but I found a few spots to measure. Just went and measured in 4 different places. Looks like 1.75 inches just east of Cedar Hill today!

Don't mean to point on you Chris - my apologies - You are correct the roads here in St Chuck were completely untreated.... No.. no... no... please dont say sorry for speaking up. i really appreciate that you did. If my forecast or messaging was off...or wasn't received the way I expected/thought it was.. I need to hear that. Sometimes I can get caught inside my own head and what I think I am saying is not what is being heard (does that even make sense?) There is no question roads got worse than messaged. My contention is that it had less to do with the forecast...and more to do with how roads were handled. That is one reason I try hard to stay away from explicitly forecasting road conditions...because while I can predict the weather pretty well... I have no way to understand how roads are going to be treated. I can tell you what will fall on a road...and what may happen if they are not treated...but how street crews will respond is often a mystery.

364 from Mid Rivers all the way to 64 was a joke and that is all MODOT. It was a solid sheet of ice and people couldn’t make it up hills and with curves, couldn’t handle the curves, even at 10mph. I’m sorry, no excuses. They didn’t prepare properly.

Why the heck were they not throwing salt all over the place this afternoon knowing how fast temps were dropping and that the snow wouldnt end until sunset? And most of the 2 or so inches of snow fell this morning!!! Maybe we had another 1/4 to 1/2 this afternoon? Argh...Im just waiting to throw the forecasters under the bus.

Right at 1.0” here in Perryville with the last of the light snow still falling. Would have liked a bit more but this is remarkable for Nov. 11. The wind and cold truly makes it feel like the dead of winter...we may never see this again this time of year in terms of the cold.

1st Snow Day of the year tomorrow for down here where no one lives. It looks like the forecast verified almost perfectly with around 1” of sleet/snow in Perryville. Roads deteriorated quickly with the sleet, falling temps and sun starting to set. Veterans Day saved many people the headache of trying to get home safely.
