That’s some horrible news. That happened right across the lake from our condo which I’ll be at later I got word from my wife a few minutes ago. She called and said she was on the lake a couple of miles west of Branson with our son and her parents when the storm went through. She said the storm was pretty bad. They observed the nearby dock sustaining significant damage but fortunately they are ok. I actually had no idea they were on the lake today until she called me.

The area where I believe this happened was close to the Table Rock Dam which is just to the left and down from the letter B in Branson in the screenshot below. Winds were generally in the 60-70 kt range at 3000 ft. But, keep in mind that the wind vector is about 30 degrees offset from the radial axis of the beam so that means the real velocity is underestimated here.

Ky3 is now reporting 11 confirmed fatalities and possibly 5 still missing.
From radar it appeared to me that the gust front would have been impacting that area starting around 7:01. The first warning that included Table Rock went out at 6:32.

That's terrible. Amazing how much chop is on the lake during that storm.

That was a terrible video to watch. You could tell they were taking on water at the end and sinking. How in the world can they be allowed out on the water with that kind of storm front moving in?

Well the storms were a swing and a miss, but at least it's looking like there won't be any excessive heat to talk about after tomorrow (today as post is after midnight) for potentially a couple weeks with highs slated to stay in the upper 70s to upper 80s through the start of August. That's after tomorrow's 94-97 which looks to be the last 90s we'll see for a little while anyway. Surely can't complain about that.

Just so sad about the Duck boat in Branson. Many rides on them over the years. I’m sure life jackets will be mandatory now. My question is why on water when a warning was issued 30min before and didn’t expire for 30min after it sank 24ft deep. Attached is from boat that made it back safely. The boat behind them went down.

I know could be a silly question. Maybe it's not. I know when a storm strikes Carlyle or Rend Lake they also give an advisory for the lake many times. Even with non severe storms they will. It's basically a boating advisory. I would have to assume this was done down in Springfield, but you never know.
And as a passenger boat you would almost have to think they have mandatory weather alert on that. Just questions.
Looking at the videos of the incident the thing that struck me was the duration of the high winds. That was kind of strange. My guess is they got hit with the gust front and then had a kind of lull and then got smacked with microbursts. Problem is the lake doesn't instantly calm down during that lull
