I know there will be human error involved on the lake tragedy. I just cannot believe they're in the habit of going out on that lake during severe storms.
Either something wasn't communicate correctly or they made a poor judgment that they were going to get across the lake before the storms hit.

I feel profound sadness and anger over the duck boat tragedy. Sadness for the loss of life. I'm a new parent as of May and i cant imagine the grief families are feeling. The loss of life is tremendous and we are probably looking at whole families lost.
The anger comes from reading this statement from the tour boat owner:
"This business has been operating for 47 years and we've never had an incident like this or anything close to it. To the best of our knowledge – and we don't have a lot of information now – but it was a fast-moving storm that came out of basically nowhere is sort of the verbal analysis I've got," Pattison said.
11 dead, 5 missing after tour boat capsizes in Branson, Missouri According to Pattison, the boats do have life jackets on board but passengers are not required to wear them by law.
"Usually the lake is very placid and it's not a long tour, they go in and kind of around an island and back. We had other boats in the water earlier and it had been a great, sort of calm experience," Pattison said.
He added that the captain of that particular boat had 16 years of experience with the company, Ride the Ducks.
"You know, they have a very good record. So, again, this seems to be sort of almost a micro storm effect of something that no one was expecting to happen the way that it did," Pattison said.
Some of the victims were children. Police say the search for survivors is not over.

the "it came out of nowhere" excuse is a load of horse manure. As this forum has shown, this storm was severe for quite some time and well warned. Gross negligence is the problem here.

Not going to come close to repaying and replacing though.

What a crock. These storms were severe for many hours as they headed toward that area. It's misinformation to say it came out of nowhere, jesus.

It looks like the lake got rolling with 50 mile an hour winds from the gust front. Then the rain arrived with downbursts that probably got close to 70 miles an hour. Recipe for disaster.

Was there a watch up for that area also? I wasn't paying much attention yesterday

Was there a watch up for that area also? I wasn't paying much attention yesterday Yes, severe thunderstorm watch 283 was valid at 11:20am through 9:00pm for all the SW MO counties. I read a report that the t-storm warning for Branson (and surrounding area) went out prior to 6:30, but I'm not sure about that. I thought it was 6:32 so I'll have to double check that. In any case that would have been several hours of watch and about 30 minutes (or more) of warning if my timeline I posted yesterday is correct.

Yep. Had that canopy not been there the death toll would have been far less.

I had never looked closely at the design of one of those before, but the canopy and low profile make those things death traps. They need to be banned

Going to hang along the river or sneak over into their western counties? Wife is a little skidish after the wickedness weather Perry County has been thrown these past couple years.

A few days ago I was trying to use CIPS to find analogs for this system. There really weren't many good ones. There were a couple that had closed lows, but nothing that was as strong as this system.

Looks like storms blowing up around Cape Girardeau and then really starting to fire up east of there.

In addition to that questionable statement from the owner of the boat I'm trying to figure out the statement from the Des Moines NWS about that tornado outbreak in Iowa yesterday.
I heard more than one news source report that the NWS said they weren't expecting tornadoes yesterday and were taken by surprise. Wasn't Iowa in the marginal risk for severe weather yesterday? And while that usually means severe storms isn't one of the possibilities always mentioned in t-storm watches the possibility of a tornado? So how could they be taken by surprise?

Well my forecast of 100 was not far off. My hot thermometer shower 102 but spirit hit 100 and Lambert hit 98. So not far off. Defimately around 100 for all you naysayers lol. Wind was very favorable and dry air heats up fast
