It's been that way at least the last couple years. Mixes things out to much usually too allowing Temps to be about 10+ degrees warmer than reality. Thanks, they should probably tweak that

I had a post a few years ago about HI records at STL. I'll see if I can find that.

Peak HI at Washington, MO airport was 127F. Snowman99 is on cloud-nine with a refreshing 84F dewpoint and cherishing every moment...

Looking back through old hourly observations (with the caveat that data is spotty at times, only goes back so far, and I haven't pull down data from recent years) the record heat index at KSTL was 119F on July 1, 1945 at 2pm with T/Dp of 100/79.
Edit: Looks like highest dewpoint of 83F was on same day.

On a serious note. Unfortunately, the prolonged and extreme nature of this heat wave is likely to be very deadly.

500 mb height records are even more limited, but according to the SPC sounding climatology which is generally only back to 1995 or so the highest values are 600 at SGF, 605 at ILX, and 608 at TOP.

Prayers to all the first responders at 111 salvage. Smoke plume is visible from at least 20 miles and is on radar.

8/21 0Z sounding at 500mb was 601 at SGF, 603 at TOP, and 600 at ILX. The 601 at SGF is the highest since at least 1995.

I’m not even looking at the Davis. Except for dog duty, hiding for the duration.

I live in a bit of a valley so I may be a bit of an outlier... Temp: 82.9° DP: 79.4° Normally what I'd see if rain came through a couple of hours ago.

Took the dog for a walk. 78 in my house never felt so good. I did see the smoke plume from the fire, thing is massive and looked like a cloud.
