I was sitting in the motorhome last night at deer camp, and I felt it. I thought I was feeling things. I was thinking maybe it was the storm rolling in, just west of Vienna, Illinois Anybody else just feel the earthquake? I didn't post until confirmed by USGS, but it was a 3.7 near Williamsville, MO. Felt in Hillsboro MO.

I fell asleep during the winter weather forecast last night before they got to the actual months and if we can expect snow. Anyone want to sum it up for me? Thanks.

New GFS and yet another option for the end of next week. I hope this isn't a trend for the rest of winter or you guys are going to go nuts!

New GFS and yet another option for the end of next week. I hope this isn't a trend for the rest of winter or you guys are going to go nuts! Seems like models want to dig that S stream energy way down into Baja and N MX now with the N stream crushing anything that tries to develop. But the ensemble means still have a decent look with an inverted trof to the S and the surface ridge settling in across the N Central Plains. I also noticed that the SOI took a pretty big drop a few days ago which signals a storm developing around then.

Finally kicks the low north by Saturday night. Cold air might not be around by then unfortunately

That’s a wonky and not very favorable looking setup for the Thanksgiving day system on the EPS. The EPS has the energy digging way down into Mexico which means it would need to gain some serious latitude for it to track favorably for us Not seeing much of a cold air connection either with that ridging over top Very “meh” as 99 would say

Yeah, that's a pretty janky looking setup other than the -NAO. Need that ridging in the EPAC to be further north but the deep low off AK is a problem. Hope that's not a staple this winter or it'll be a constant exercise in frustration as Chris said.

Chris at 5 you asked if STL had ever experienced a blizzard. You told viewers 1982 wasn't a blizzard but you never addressed the initial question.

Chris at 5 you asked if STL had ever experienced a blizzard. You told viewers 1982 wasn't a blizzard but you never addressed the initial question. Not sure I follow. I defined what it takes to be a blizzard and then showed that 1982 was not a real blizzard. I never asked if there has EVER been an official blizzard (I don't think) The answer to that question is most likely no.

I'll have to go back and look at the observations... but at least at the airport I don't think it qualified... but it was REALLY close.

There's been quite a few storms through the years that produced blizzard conditions in outlying areas where it's open. Terrain and buildings make a big difference when it comes to blowing snow and wind gust strength. The storm in 1996 was a blizzard here...it blew the highway shut and they had to bring in snowblowers from up north to clear it. The drifts were massive. The 2014 storm was similar but not as much snow fell here with that one.

Still a decent inverted trof/secondary development on the ensembles around Black Friday but it's pretty far South. Definitely need better phasing involved to get a good track with a cold connection. Probably a thread the needle situation, which isn't uncommon this time of year. Still something to keep an eye on though.
