06z euro ensembles look decent. WSC they really like Chicago I was just flipping through them and see 3 pretty distinct camps. 1. North and gfs like 2. Southeast more like the ukmet 3. Through the heart of the metro (a Ggem solution displaced 50-75 miles southeast). That’s a ton of spread. Trimodal is a headache of a distribution

Its pretty strange the ukie and euro disagree with each other this much at this range This happened with the winter storm warning bust a few weeks ago. I believe the ukmet was closest on placement with that one, but obviously they were all wrong by a lot. Those two were in lockstep in previous years, so it is interesting

I watched the Spring Forecast last night got a question Chris or someone else here can Answer. The Special mentioned the Mississippi River Froze over in the 1800s could that have been connected to the Little Ice Age the Earth was in round that time? Info on what I’m referring to. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Ice_Age

Here’s the euro ensembles snow depth simulation. Basically everything that falls south of Wisconsin is from the systems of interest. Not really much when you factor in melting

I’m assuming they do, but do snow depth products also factor in compaction and snow ratio?

That map looks like our standard 1”or less storms we’ve had 7-8 times this year . That is probably a likely scenario, wrap around snow showers with temps near freezing, minor accumulation on the grass

Info on what I’m referring to. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Ice_AgeI've wondered what effect the dredging and other things done to keep the navigation channel open has had on reducing the possibility of that happening again.

I’m assuming they do, but do snow depth products also factor in compaction and snow ratio? I'm pretty sure they do. I think they factor in 3 things: snow-liquid-ratio, compaction, and melting.

There’s quite a few “kaboom” runs in the euro ensembles

But the river used to get ice gorges even as recent as l8 70s before it was dredged.

Gefs ensemble guidance is trending north this evening making this look more like an IA to chicago snowstorm. Still 5 days away so who knows but my point is there has never been any significant consensus on a stl major snow.

I personally am not expecting much. However, there is potential. At this point I would say there’s a 20% chance of 3”+.
