Maybe I am getting old, and my eyes are changing, but I swear the sunshine looks a little different these days. It seems crisper and brighter.

I don't know...maybe less pollution? Haze, ozone, etc. I guess I haven't paid too much attention over the long term, but I do notice differences over shorter time periods (like season or air mass changes).

It is probably nothing more than our eyes adjusting after the lack of sunshine the past few weeks....and because the air is super clear right now.

You shouldn't look directly at the sun.

I think having these winter like airmasses in combination with a higher sun angle is making the sunlight seem "crisper" for sure. Just wait for the St. Louis tropical humidity to kick in and create more haziness in the atmosphere

You shouldn't look directly at the sun. I actually did for about 10s during the partial phase of the eclipse while it was presenting the diamond ring effect (so yeah it was probably 99.9%+ covered at that point). That was probably one of the coolest effects of the eclipse. I don't know about you guys, but I'm definitely doing the next eclipse as well. Even my wife who had a "meh" attitude about it said it was way cooler than she expected and will travel to see the next one.

Oh, and here's the entire 4 year period for the snowfall departures I posted earlier. As you can see KS/MO/OK/AR region has been pretty much the epicenter of crappy snowfall east of the mountains and outside the deep south.

I found Summer! It's in central Europe. Germany is roasting in the worst heat in 70 years. Don't worry this will be rotating it's way around the globe in 4 to 6 weeks. Might get a taste here in a week or 2, but more persistent heat/heatwaves will wait till 2nd half of May into the traditional Summer months.
That said CFS 768 hr model run says no Summer for you. Keeps cooler than normal temps going minus a few days here and there ahead of systems throughout it's run.

I remember how wicked some of those wind storms could be in Golden. I think the fastest non-thunderstorm wind gust I saw living there was right around 70mph.

I remember how wicked some of those wind storms could be in Golden. I think the fastest non-thunderstorm wind gust I saw living there was right around 70mph. We were on a bus ride from the Denver airport to Breckenridge when the mountains were under a High Wind Warning. As soon as we started going up in elevation the wind started knocking the bus around like it was nothing. I was getting nervous but the bus driver acted like this was a common occurrence. That was still the hardest wind gust I think Ive seen. Probably gusting in the 80-90mph range consistently.

Last year we had a wind storm where the gusts were over 100 mph. I learned to crack open the car windows so they don't bust out, in fact that did happen to one of our students. There has been a few days just in the past week with gusts around and over 50.

I just thought it was pretty amazing how dry this air mass is right now. At 2 p.m. The Sullivan RAWS Data reported a Dew Point of 10, with a Relative Humidity of 12%. Being in the fire service, I follow fire weather pretty closely. I have very rarely seen the Dew PT and RH that low around here when it is 64 Degrees out. Pretty volatile fire weather today and I will attest after just returning from a brush fire that things are burning very well today.

Happy birthday Weax!
Great day of weather... beautiful spring weather!
Looking at the weekend, I am most likely the coldest forecast out there. Key factors for me... 1)east wind 2)overcast 3)light precip
Those three factors don't exactly scream mid 60s in April. I'm going to stick to my guns with 58 for Sunday and just see how that goes. If it gets warmer...nobody will remember (except me)!

Oklahoma still has not had a tornado yet this year and I'm not seeing much if any chances in the short to medium range either. According to Tulsa NWS the latest occurrence was April 26 in 1962.

The morels sure did pop this morning. You guys should have a great season with the rainfall coming in tonight and tomorrow and next week. Hoping to get a shower or two this far north but not holding my breath. The wind Wednesday and the low RH yesterday put a dent in the soil moisture.
