You dont normally see dewpoints like this outside of the persian gulf/red sea area. Pretty impressive.

Has the heat index calculation evolved or changed like wind chill over the years?

Has the heat index calculation evolved or changed like wind chill over the years? Seems like they tweaked it about 10 years ago...could be wrong

Snowman99 I think the radar cant even figure out this kind of sauna in our region. I think that may be the washed out front beginning to retreat causing some echos.
But who knows this may be bout the most hot humid combo I have ever witnessed in my 30 years on earth lol.

But who knows this may be bout the most hot humid combo I have ever witnessed in my 30 years on earth lol. A good chunk of the summer of 1980 was like this but not as extreme as the last couple days. A heat wave hit right about the same time as now in 1983, but things were kind of droughty. Late August early September 1984, there was a brief but intense heat wave with the Southwest flow. 1988 was hot all summer but droughty. 2012 was completely different. At 58 I'm having a tough time remembering more than 24 to 48 hours of this level of humidity with heat.

Also I'm pretty sure 5-minute obs showed a couple 119s yesterday at KSTL. It did. However, the 5 minute METAR observations have an annoying rounding problem. The web page takes the raw value in F and converts it to C then rounds and stores that value to the nearest integer behind the scenes. Whenever you have "US Units" selected it takes the integer C value and converts it F again. This means the 97/81 value could have actually only been 96/80 yielding HI=116. Note that the hourly reports at 51 minutes contain the real values and do not suffer from this conversion bug. Yes, this is maddening. Anyway, here is the list of mappings from 70 to 115 F. Actual => Reported 70 => 70 71 => 72 72 => 72 73 => 73 74 => 73 75 => 75 76 => 75 77 => 77 78 => 79 79 => 79 80 => 81 81 => 81 82 => 82 83 => 82 84 => 84 85 => 84 86 => 86 87 => 88 88 => 88 89 => 90 90 => 90 91 => 91 92 => 91 93 => 93 94 => 93 95 => 95 96 => 97 97 => 97 98 => 99 99 => 99 100 => 100 101 => 100 102 => 102 103 => 102 104 => 104 105 => 106 106 => 106 107 => 108 108 => 108 109 => 109 110 => 109 111 => 111 112 => 111 113 => 113 114 => 115 115 => 115

I was praising them clouds today while mowing. Spent about 3.5hrs on the 0-turn. I really wasn't cutting much grass as much as I was re-dispersing all the brown clumps/trails of grass from last mowing on Friday. I do not recall having to mow on a 4-5 day schedule for this many weeks in August before. But, like others have mentioned on here, my memory is also nothing like it use be. I remember the Super El Nino in CA the winter of 82-83 but only because there were SO MANY storms coming in off the Pacific with lots of thunderstorms with them.

The Aug. 5, 2022 sounding from ILX is saying 605 DM for 500 mb heights. That has to be incorrect since Davenport is only saying 590 DM for the same day.

500 mb height records are even more limited, but according to the SPC sounding climatology which is generally only back to 1995 or so the highest values are 600 at SGF, 605 at ILX, and 608 at TOP. And now the 608 DM value the SPC was showing for TOP has been removed. I wonder if they are going through the observations and removing the bad ones. Anyway, the SPC is now saying 600 DM on 8/16/2003 was the highest since 1955 at TOP. This means the current ridge has produced 500 mb heights that are likely higher than any other observed at TOP, ILX, and SGF.

NOAA shows 86 as the highest in Missouri right now. Washington sitting at 91/86/121. Unreal.

Woke up at 0430 to use the bathroom, fog was heavy and the outside of the windows looked like cooler doors. Whoever had the picture of that lady saying moist, that is exactly how it feels outside. Gross.
