Oh Brtn don’t get sucked into all the nonsense trends, SSW /MJO/AO/PNA all those things are not working out this year. Knowing our luck it will get nasty mid March when everything starts to leaf out and green up. We will get some ridiculous cold and snowy pattern that develops in the beginning of spring when we all want nice warm and sunny weather.

This would pose a severe threat if the euro is right

We did it again. We 2-weeks'd ourselves right into Spring. This started near the end of the calendar year. Smart ppl said the arctic is drained and its going to take a long time to reload. Optimistic ppl said,, "wait, theres a ssw coming". Weve heard neg ao, waning la nina, mjo is entering phase 8, blah blah blah, wherefore and which to, etc etc.
Well this reminds me of some advice my grandfather shared with me at my uncles wedding while we were sitting close to each other next to the Music Band. The music was so loud I couldn't hear what he said.

Yeah that Euro run is amped up with the surface low, moisture return, and shear but also tamped down with clouds and poor lapse rates.

I asked OpenAI's ChatGPT "How do I deal with the disappointment of not getting snow?". It gave me a wordy answer that boiled down to me needing to do these 5 things 1) Reframe my perspective. 2) Practice self-care. 3) Connect with others. 4) Plan for the future. and 5) Take action. And by "Take action" it meant that I should pursue a new hobby. Whatever ChatGPT. You can take your suggestions especially #5 and shove it up the unmentionable parts of your neural-network.
I was in the waitlist to talk with Bing (aka Sydney). I had a lot of fun weather related talking points and ideas I wanted to discuss with it and was looking forward to the more free-spirited and open nature of its responses and interactions. I'm fairly certain I could have taught it to love snow and be empathetic regarding the lack of it. And I really wanted it to give tomorrow's weather forecast in pirate lingo. But before I got my turn Microsoft reportedly lobotomized it last night. Based on the conservations I saw posted on the internet it was inevitable if not understandable, but was disappointing nonetheless.
I cannot wait for the days when a snarky chatbot is giving the daily weather forecast for St. Louis.

There is also another SSW coming at the end of the month (a rare double dip). I’m called for a snowy Opening Day around MLB and a snowy Easter.

Now the PV club is saying March before the effects are realized. We shall see. March snow can stick around for a bit, but not like January or February snow.
I’m just glad my livelihood and the livelihood of just about everyone in the area isn’t reliant on snow, or keeping snow. The businesses up north are not happy about these warmups as they are destroying the trails and causing people who spend a crap ton of money each week and weekend up there to cancel their trips.

Colleagues in MN have their kids on ski teams. They are pretty happy this winter except for a bit of ice abt a week ago. Btw, what the heck ever happened at hidden vally? I know they were late in making snow (toward end of our 5 day cold blast). Did they close early this season?

Maybe not now, but thats what the smart ppl said in early jan. Maybe we cant get enough buildup for a strong enough high pressure to overcome that ridge, and it just keeps bleeding out faster than it can build.

I honestly can't believe they are still in business...how many other ski slopes are there at our latitude below 3-5kft? I'd venture a guess and say none.

Hopefully their ziplining business has helped them stay afloat. I know there are ppl that skied there regularly. I think ive only been there 2 or 3 times when the kids were in scouts...20 plus years ago.

Also, I’d say Chris’ lack of posting (always lurking) is enough to tell us there is little threat of winter or severe weather, or any weather that is impactful to the masses.
Or he’s just busy making sure Scott’s weather balloons aren’t shot down.
Not that it’s a bad thing. He probably needs a break!

There’s no way you can sustain something like that here. Especially on that prime real estate. It's not ideal, but some developer probably wants to put mcmansions on that land

I pulled into the farm yesterday down here in Vienna Illinois, and the tulips and daffodils are popping out of the ground already, some are even flowered. There was a inch of frozen sleet and ice here two weeks ago, so bad the schools were closed for almost a week.
