Starting to get a little nervous about the storms up on the Iowa Missouri line. If they throw out an outflow boundary... I could see them testing the cap... and eventually breaking the cap... resulting in a southward propagating MCS. This is one solution that has shown up in some of the CAMs at times this AM as well as in the most recent run of the HRRR. Another possible solution is that the bubbling underway in KS breaks open early and sends a forward propegating MCS rapidly east across MO this afternoon. I was hoping to keep storms at bay until at least midnight... but that is in question now.

Yeah, that cluster along the border is already showing signs of turning southward down the river valley...definitely bears watching late this afternoon or early evening.

My goodness, spots just north of Champaign may get over a foot of rain.

Starting to see some steady southward propagation of that MCS with the outflow kicking off more storms to the south

Outflow near UIN surging down the river valley with storms firing along it and upstream.

Outflow near UIN surging down the river valley with storms firing along it and upstream. Interesting though that the cells popping up behind the outflow are clearly struggling with the cap... the main band of storms hasn't moved all that much yet... even with the low level oufow pushing south.

Yeah, they do seem to be shallow. Always tricky when you're dealing with stout CINH but strong surface heating and low-level forcing.

Hrrrr is still out to lunch with that MCS to our north
It’s been predicting it to dissipate all morning

Will the severe cluster north of Marshall, MO get here before we lose the daytime heating?

Will the severe cluster north of Marshall, MO get here before we lose the daytime heating? She’s really starting to move fast so I would think it should hold together for awhile.

Will the severe cluster north of Marshall, MO get here before we lose the daytime heating? I’d keep a close eye on that. Could pose a severe threat here this evening

If that cluster out past COU develops a cold pool and forward momentum, it could pose a significant wind risk.
SPC doesn't seem too impressed with this but with DCAPE running 1200j/kg+ there's definitely potential for severe winds.

Storms are starting fire along that outflow boundary moving into the metro from the northeast. Kudos to demerson- Fletcher MO for calling that.

Looks like a bookend vortex is developing near Macon as it's starting to interact with the outflow boundary from earlier storms. Strongly backed easterly winds here and the temp has dropped almost 20*. There may be a tornado risk right along that boundary and it looks to set up near the Metro as the line approaches.
