Farmers Almanac is predicting a long, cold and snow filled winter. STL is in the "teeth chattering cold and plentiful snow" region. In contrast, the Old Farmers Almanac predicts the opposite, warmer than normal and dry. Not sure which has a better accuracy track record. I feel like theyve been predicting “cold and snowy” for the past 3 years which have been 3 of the worst winters in st. louis’ history.

Proof that either source should be taken with not just a grain of salt but a whole salt mine.

Good to see you Chris! Thanks for letting us see the “tools of your trade”. My daughter absolutely enjoyed the experience! Meeting Chris and Reb was the icing on the cake. I second the thanks for allowing us to see the "tools of your trade"! Thank you for the experience! Special thanks for talking with my daughter!

Oh look...an Excessive Heat Warning. I'm done with summer. It wasn't brutal, by any stretch of the imagination. I'm still done with it. To top it off, my aerator is somehow leaking in the middle of the yard...so that's going to be fun to diagnose today.

Not the last gasp. After a brief break midweek, Labor day weekend into next week look hot. Maybe hotter than it is now. Can't wait.

alot of ppl swear by those almanacs. i thought last winter was cold and snowy...the snow cover was pretty extensive just not here in the Lou. drought won for us. That's what screwed us last year. We started drying out in July and it only got worse into fall. Hard to break a very dry pattern in winter. We've improved dramatically since then and pattern still looks somewhat active over the next week. We shouldn't see systems disentigtate as they come into our area this winter, unless Sep-Nov is incredibly dry. But I don't see that happening.

My general early thoughts for us this Winter is as follows. Generally mild with some cold spells (1 or 2 could be significant and last several days) mixed in and slightly below average snow with more wintry mixes and ice possible rather then just plain snow. Precipitation will be just a hair below average to right on average as a whole. So perhaps more interesting Winter season then last few but from what it looks like right now, not by that much. We'll likely spend much of the winter between storm tracks of the northern and southern jets by and large.
If I had to pick an almanac forecast I'd say Old Farmer's, but yeah take them with a Salt mine. BTW what does it say about Summer 2019? Hot and Dry or Cool and Wet?

To top off the weekend, I'm looking at wet spots in two different places on the basement ceiling (finished plaster...terrible idea). At first I assumed it was a pinhole leak in a copper line going to the girls' bathroom, since it lined up almost perfectly. Now I'm thinking that the ductwork is sweating profusely, since there are also spots in a different area. Both "near" ducts, and I noticed the lines in the furnace room (unfinished) sweating so badly that it's dripping on the floor. Next season, please.
